SUICIDE IS EVERYONES BUSINESS

SUICIDE. DON’T HIDE IT. TALK ABOUT IT

East Dunbartonshire is fully comitted to supporting the Scottish Governments ‘Choose Life’ (Suicide Prevention) strategy, which aims to reduce suicide rates in Scotland by 20% by 2013. The East Dunbartonshire Choose Life steering group has developed an action plan specifically to address the needs of East Dunbartonshire.

A key initiative within this action plan is the role out of awareness raising & intervention training courses, ‘Safe TALK’ & ‘ASIST’ two world recognised training courses. There is NO CHARGE, for attendinding these courses and are suitable for any members of staff in statutory, voluntary & private organisations and in addition members of the public are welcomed and strongly encouraged to attend

 Training Options

ASIST is a 2 day Suicide Prevention training course, preparing ‘caregivers’ (workers, family and friends or members of the public) with the skills to perform a suicide first aid intervention. The programme provides participants with tools and techniques which support them to identify a person who maybe having thoughts of suicide and through a risk review process put measures in place that will counteract these risks.

Workshop Dates

Safe TALK is a suicide prevention Alertness session that runs for about three and a half hours and delivered to small groups. This enables people to be ALERT to people who may be having thoughts of suicide within our communities, and enables participants to ask about these thoughts of suicide, to know how to keep the person safe, and know who to link/ connect them to, who will be able to deliver a suicide first aid intervention.
